MIT Issues Updated Remote Appointment Guidance for 2022-2023 Academic Year

The MIT Office of the Vice Chancellor (OVC) released updated guidance on Remote Appointments effective for the 2022-2023 Academic Year.

MIT will continue to expect all enrolled students to be physically on-campus for in-person learning and to conduct their U.S.-based appointments from inside the U.S. and to return to the U.S. prior to the start of each academic semester.
Exceptions include appointments that involve work or research obligations that are required as part of a student’s degree program to be done remotely with advanced approval.

MIT will also recognize students who face absolute barriers (such as visa processing delays) or other significant hardship (ex: attending to a family or personal emergency) that require time away from campus. The guidance provides procedures to obtain advanced permission for a remote appointment.
