DOS/USDHS Announces Forms DS-2019 Can be Sent Electronically, effective April 27, 2023

The U.S. Department of State and U.S. Department of Homeland Security recently announced that the Form DS-2019 will be eligible for electronic distribution as of April 27, 2023.

The International Students Office will be permitted to send the Form DS-2019 (for J-1 or J-2 visa holders) attached to the approval request in iMIT to the student’s email address officially on file in SEVIS (for current students, this will generally be their MIT email address).

Once the new Form DS-2019 is received, students will need to download, print, and “wet” sign the Form DS-2019 for use when traveling or applying for a new entry visa at a U.S. Embassy/Consulate abroad.

The ISO will no longer need to mail the physical copy of the Form DS-2019 unless a physical copy with a wet signature from MIT is requested by a US Embassy/Consulate.

If any questions arise, students can contact their ISO Advisor.
