SEVP Issues Broadcast Message Regarding Prevention of STEM OPT Employer Fraud 

On March 23, 2026, the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP), in the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, issued a Broadcast Message “STEM OPT Employer Fraud” regarding a new focus on detecting and preventing fraud in the F-1 STEM OPT Extension program. Students/alumni, schools, and employers, are reminded to be diligent in following the F-1 STEM OPT Extension rules, including reporting requirements and being sure that the activity being pursued under the STEM OPT Extension authorization is directly related to the student’s designated earned degree.
