USICE Rescinds July 6 Guidance on International Students and Online Learning

On July 14, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (USICE), a division of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (USDHS) rescinded its guidance issued on July 6, 2020 on international students in F and M visa status and limits to online learning for the Fall 2020 semester. MIT and Harvard had filed a lawsuit against the USDHS guidance.

Please read the community message sent by MIT President L. Rafael Reif regarding the results of the lawsuit here.

The result of this case is that guidance from USDHS on the Fall 2020 semester will revert to its guidance issued in March 2020 to address the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in the Spring 2020 and Summer 2020 terms.

MIT is reviewing again the March 2020 guidance and will provide updates as soon as possible to the community that will include additional guidance/FAQ we expect from USDHS following the court decision.
