Sylvia Hiestand
Associate Director for Advising Outreach
Sylvia joined the International Students Office in 2010 and currently works as the Associate Director for Advising Outreach. Sylvia’s role comprises outreach and advising services to international students regarding their U.S. immigration status, employment, academics, health and wellness, and cultural adjustment concerns. Sylvia previously served as Director the Slater International Center at Wellesley College, in Wellesley Massachusetts.
Sylvia came to the United States as an international student on an F-1 student visa. As such, because of her experience as a student from abroad, she can empathize with the international students whom she advises and understand the challenges that they face.
Sylvia received a Master’s degree in Comparative Literature and an ABD in French 18th-Century History of Ideas from the University of Washington.
