How can I drop a subject? Does that impact my visa status?

Students need to maintain their full-time enrolled status at MIT in order to maintain their student visa status.  Undergraduate students must be enrolled for at least 36 units each Fall and Spring term of their degree program (unless in their final term they do not need 36 units to complete their degree).

Graduate students must maintain full-time enrollment as required by their academic program. For most graduate programs, 36 units is considered standard full-time enrollment, but some programs may consider fewer units, along with a full-time assistantship as full time. There are additional allowances in cases where dropping below a full-course of study may be allowed due to documented medical reasons.

Any international student who may desire to drop a subject, that could bring enrollment below full-time enrollment, should meet with their ISO Advisor before dropping the subject.
