“I’m trying to think…”

“I’m trying to think…”

This means, “I’m thinking.” However, for some reason, many Americans adopt the phrase “I’m trying to think,” usually in a case where they are trying to come up with the right word for something, or a way to explain something. Many Americans might not even realize they are saying this unless you point it out to them. (I didn’t, until an international student asked about it!)
