Pick-me-up

DEFINITION: something that makes you feel better and more lively. Also, an action or a tangible object that “brightens your day,” or makes you a little happier.

EXAMPLES:

“This has been such a long day–I need a pick-me-up.”
“That piece of chocolate was a nice pick-me-up.”

A random act of kindness can also be a nice pick-me-up. For example, if someone gives you their seat on the T if you look tired, or if you introduce yourself to someone who is new, these are all random acts of kindness. These actions can really serve to improve someone’s mood, or rather, “brighten their day.”
